Certified Apparatus

European Precision Medical Technology

Clinical precision relies directly on instrument calibration. All apparatus at OptiCare Medical Center complies with the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) and ISO 13485 quality standards.

Carl Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT

High-definition optical coherence tomography for micrometer-level evaluation of macular retina and optic nerve head layers.

Alcon WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond Laser

Ultra-fast laser creating precision corneal flaps in just 6 seconds with micro-level accuracy and displacement-resistant beveled edges.

Pentacam AXL Wave (Oculus)

Rotating Scheimpflug camera with simultaneous total ocular aberration measurement, anterior/posterior topography, and optical biometry.

Lumenis Optima Ocular IPL

Filtered pulsed optical technology with continuous sapphire contact cooling for effective relief of evaporative dry eye.

Patient Safety Protocol

Strict Pre-Operative Assessment

We reject candidates whenever cornea thickness, curvature, or endothelial cell density fails safety thresholds. Up to 18% of evaluated patients are directed to non-surgical alternatives to guarantee absolute long-term ocular protection.

  • Corneal pachymetry safety margin > 300 µm residual stromal bed

Frequently Asked Questions

Clinical details regarding preparation, tests, recovery times, and payments.

How long does the initial ophthalmology consultation take?
The initial diagnostic consultation and fundus examination generally takes 45 to 75 minutes, depending on whether pupil dilation or specialized corneal topography is required. We suggest having an escort if dilating drops are applied, as near vision may be blurred for 2 to 4 hours.
Why must contact lenses be removed days prior to the assessment?
Contact lenses temporarily alter corneal curvature (corneal warpage). For our Pentacam tomography to capture true anatomical measurements, soft lenses must be discontinued at least 7 days before (14 days for toric lenses) and hard/RGP lenses at least 3 to 4 weeks before.
How long does recovery take after Femto-LASIK or SMILE surgery?
The vast majority of patients treated with Femto-LASIK or SMILE Pro experience crisp functional vision within 24 to 48 hours, allowing return to computer work and office duties in 2 to 3 days. Aquatic sports, saunas, and eye-rubbing must be avoided for the first 3 to 4 weeks.
What payment methods and insurance coverages are accepted?
We accept major international credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express), bank wire transfers, and cash. Official itemized medical invoices are issued for Japanese income tax medical expense deduction (医療費控除) and private international health insurance reimbursement.
